Hi folks,

I have a 1977 Evinrude 9.9 kicker motor and I have a chance to buy a 1975 9.9 for a parts unit. My question is: will both motors Interchange? They look identical in every way but sometimes looks are deceiving. So will the 1975 parts fit the 1977 ? Thanks for any info and help

Go to the link below:

http://shop2.evinrude.com

You can go to each model's parts blowups and parts lists. Compare the part numbers for the parts you want to know about.

That said, most of the stuff from the 77 should fit on the 75. There may have been some changes during that period, but most stuff will work.

CATransplant,

Thanks so much for the info and link! I sort of thought they would interchange together because they almost look identical except one is electric start.

Thanks again.

Some will, some won't. I'm pretty sure they have different ignition systems so the magneto parts won't interchange but many/most other parts will be the same on both. If your getting it for a good price go for it. The gear case alone would be valuable if needed. I bought an 85 9.9 parts motor and I've used it to get both an 82 -15 HP and a 79 - 9.9 back up and running and I still have a ton of parts left. I believe the electric start uses a different fly wheel even for the same model year so you won't probably be able to switch that around. Best of luck. Rick.

Re: Evinrude info for 9.9

Rick,

Thanks for the reply back also. This guy wanted $125.00 for it but I told him I wouldn't go higher then $100.00 so he said OK. I guess I will call him and buy it off of him. I know when we rebuilt my buddy's 9.9 he needed a new tiller arm and he found one on ebay for $40.00 so I suppose this motor will pay for itself in parts alone. Thanks again guys for your sound advice.

I think you've done well for that price. I have no doubt you will save far more than that over time. Now if your anything like me you will decide to get them both running and you'll have to go looking for another parts motor. Rick.
