Evinrude Help

I have a 1986 Evinrude 150hp motor that has started acting up. I have recently changed fuel line, plugs, had the carbs rebuilt and replaced all of the fuel. The engine starts fine at the dock, but after about 20 minutes of running it at 3500-4000 rpm, it loses almost all power and I can barely make it back to the dock at 1700 rpm. The engine will not idle either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The service center that rebuilt the carbs said everything checked out as far as spark, etc, though they did not do an open water test. Thanks in advance. Scott Bonson

Re: Evinrude Help

These engines have a protection circuit in them, I think. It doesn't run hot, does it?
Have you tried pumping the primer bulb when it does this? If so,was it soft, and did the performance briefly improve?
Sorry bout the 60 qustions, but they are important ones.

Re: Evinrude Help

The primer bulb stays relatively firm with no improvement gained by pumping it. I do not get an alarm sounding suggesting overheating, but I have not measured water temp. The telltale spout is pumping well and the alarm circuit appears intact when testing it according to the owners manual. Is it possible for an overheat sensor to malfunction without setting off the audible alarm? Thanks again for your help. Scott
