It might just be the idle mixture adjustment is too lean. A lot of people more accustomed to adjusting 4-stroke carbs strive for a smooth idle. You have to set it fat. Find the smooth idle and open it another 1/4 turn. You need it for acceleration and to prevent lean-sneezing.

Met. you didn't state year on model # i have a '55 15hp rude on a 14' Alum. Lonestar, rigged controls to middle seat and that solved my planing problem, when alone, and runs about 20mph, add another 200 lbs, and it's like dragging and anchor. click may name to get address, send me a picture of your boat, and i send mine. seeing you worked on the carbs, you probably need to do a linc n sinc, it's in the manual, and has to be done exactly as stated in the book. a decarb with Seafoam would be a good thing also. spell check sux,

Tash and Met Those boats should both pretty much fly with that boat motor combination.Should make 22 to 25 mph with one aboard and plane easily with 2.Unless you are both 300 pounders. Our old really heavy plywood boat used to do an indicated 26 mph under just the right conditions and once planed with 5 150 lb. adults.

spike i have no problem with mine, yes it flies with just me, add in my 200lb friend just seems like an anchor after playing by myself. it still performs well. it loves rough water, will turn on a dime, and i won a $200 bet , that it would pull a skier, 2 skis of course.

If it ran well before the carb rebuild and you haven't touched anything else, I've vote for the linc-n-synch. The carb has to be synched to the timing/throttle/magneto advance. Look at your carb while advancing the throttle, you should see some kind of mechanism that opens the carb butterfly from the START position through FAST. At START, the carb butterfly needs to be just open a bit...find and set this and the butterfly on the carb will smoothly open as the throttle goes up to FAST. Your carb adjustments should be done after the linc-n-synch. A manual will tell you how to do the L-n-S.
