I have a '94 Evinrude 115 V4 that was really bogging down under load. I've determined which cyl. is not getting a spark, now what? Should I start by replacing the plug, then plug wire, and keep working my way through until I find the problem or is there a way to narrow down the problem even more? Sorry for the long post

Thanks,
Pat

Re: Evinrude 115 v4 cylinder not firing

Pick up a service manual, the OMC manual is the best but a Seloc will work also. Find the Ignition section and read up on testing the various components. If you just starting replacing components it can get expensive very fast. The tests are not difficult to do. I am going thru the same issue with my 75HP Evinrude. So far I have ruled out the plug, wires and ignition coil and now am testing the power pack.

One quick test you can do, swap the plug wires from a cylinder that is firing to the one that is not. If the cylinder still does not fire, then you know it is not the wire. I guess you could do this with the ignition coils also but it may be easier to just test them with a voltmeter.
