Re: Ever fished McConaughy (NE)?
I fished it three summers ago. You can't drink beer on the water or in the campgrounds except for the private campground, "Vics" I believe. It's much nicer than the public campgrounds anyway. When the water is low, and it usually is, you have to pay to have a tractor launch your boat and that can add up. Don't even think about leaving your boat in the water. The wind picks up just about every day and the shore waves are very nasty.<br />As for the fishing it's all a question of timing. I was there over the 4th of July and the walleye fishing was fair, but I did not see any striper action. I even went deep with a downrigger because I saw some big fish down deep on the sonar. No luck. Vic, the owner of the campground told me they don't bite when they are that deep and he seems to be right. Odd thing is stripers do bite deep at Lake Powell, but most of them are half starved. My old lady says I got the name of the campground wrong, but I do know they have a web site that I found doing a search on McConaughy.
