My friend just bought a boat with a 55 HP evinrude triumph the model # 55873R, serial # J04081. What year is this motor? Thanks

I don't have my books with me here in Fla but it appears to be a '69.

Model #55873R is a 1968, Laker. Don't know what the "R" means.

It is a '68, the first 3 cyl. loop scavenged motor from OMC. They even had a decal on the back of the exhaust housing that stated the thru-hub exhaust propeller patent number since that was the year OMC won the suit against Merc about that.
