engine keeps running after shut down contact

when i shut down my contact by the key the engine will keep on running for a very short while, what can I do about this?<br /><br />Peter<br />Netherlands

The 3.0L engines are very critical on the idle speed. If it is too high they will diesel (run backwards after shut down) this can also draw water back into the cylinders if it does it too long. <br />Another frequent cause is shutting down the engine immediatly after a long or hard run. Allow the engine to run at idle for a minute or two and if the idle is at the proper setting it should stop properly.

you can try to let the engine cool down before stoping<br /><br />try a higher octane fuel<br /><br />make sure that the timeing is correct and that the spark plugs are the right heat range you should be able to get a least on range cooler than the standard plug<br /><br />it is a common problem here to more so on 4.3 v-6<br /><br />tommays
