I have a 3.0 omc. It has electronic didtributor. I just replaced my spark plug wires with marine plug wires. It had regular engine wires b4. When I started it the idle is pretty high. about 1200rpm. Idle b4 was around 900 or so. I tried to adjust with the idle screw and it backed out all the way with rpm not dropping. I then set the idle air adjustment screws back to 1 1/4 turnes out on each one. The idle is still high. Any thoughts?

Well i Took carb cleaner and checked for vacuum leaks. This is the only way i know how to do that. Throttle plate is closing. Im gonna throw the timing light on it this week. Another question has come to mind since I am now looking at timing. I was looking at the distributor where we are supposed to cross the two white wires for timing. The holes are plugged where you insert the wires. Is this common?

Disconnect the throttle cable from the carb and see if the idle slows down. You may just need to adjust the cable end to allow the throttle to close all the way.

And reset the idle "mixture" screws properly. They adjust the idle mixture, not idle speed.
