Hi everyone, first time replacing my impeller and I’m a little confused by this extra metal plate that was on the old kit. The new one did not have this. I assume that was the old gasket but sort of confused if it’s supposed to go back on underneath the new assembly. Can a real mechanic confirm this please. Impeller on the left is the new one. The one on the right is the old one and had that metal plate between the bottom cover and top of lower unit

You need a gasket ( thin metal plate is a gasket) on both sides of the flat wear plate. Did you new one come with a gasket for each side of plate. My original pump in my drive had a rubber or paper gasket on ether side.new merc impeller kit i got had the metal gasket you show. At some point merc changed what they were using.

you may want to be careful with these aftermarket impellers. Some are junk. In my experience you will get a much better service life from the oem merc / quicksilver impeller kits. There is no wear on your housing so no need to replace it. You can get the oem merc kit with impeller, wear plate, gaskets and few seals for about $60
