Have a Volvo penta 8.2 gsi. Tuned port injection. Starts great cold. Run for a while and let it sit for a couple of hours it floods. Have to put in neutral give full throttle and it will bust off. Smell of raw fuel coming out of exhaust is horrible for a min or so. . Then runs fine again. Just replaced fuel pressure regulator with no improvement. Any ideas?

Check the vent on the fuel pump assembly, might have a stuck float?

Yes. And there is fuel coming out of exhaust. Both sides of captain’s call. Also getting black soot on side of boat where exhaust comes out.

Have not checked that. Runs great all speeds but idle. If there is enough throttle given to open flaps on throttle body. It runs great.

Might be best to tell us what 8.2 you have. Serial number is best.
The 8.2 could come with 2 different fuel systems depending on year. The VST or MOAS

It’s flooding on both sides.
Here is what I think, I may be wrong...
A V8 will start well with only 7 cylinders working. If one injector is leaking and the engine is hot, fuel won't stay in that specific runner, in liquid form. It will evaporate and remain in the intake manifold plenum (throttle closed). When the engine is started again, all 8 cylinders will suck that fuel saturated air.

get it checked with a diagnostic tool, it could be a few things depending on the EFI system it has.
although most systems share common set up , flooding can range from a flooding injector to a sensor or even incorrect ECU voltage , best bet is to scan and get definite answer .
if no joy with a scan then start changing things that are mechanical (depending on system) like regulators and stuff.

Hi. My mpi with corsa exhausts does this too. When she’s cold, she over fuels and fuel is evident smelled. Made more noticeable by the exhausts we have perhaps. If she’s been out a run hard and I let off the throttle, there can be a little unburnt fuel smell occasionally. Black suit Builds up over the season. With the exhausts being as they are. But to be honest normal boat’s sometimes have a little black scum around their transom from exhausts through water even. Depending on transom and hull shape.
But of yours is on the verge of being ridiculous for it. Then I’d be looking at the ignition system as the source. Distributor cap and plugs be the first to look at
