Dumb question: What is a "Poker Run"?

I see these advertised at Lake Texoma a lot. But I've never really understood what it is, other than some type of race.

What are the rules for these? And why are they called Poker Runs?

Thanx (I know it's a dumb question, but I've only owned slow boats... so it's not like I'd get invited) :joyous:

More of an exhibition of speed and sea worthiness than a specific race . . . everybody goes from point A to point B at high rates of speed. Usually there are a bunch of bikini girls that go along for the ride . . .

. . . something about a poker hand is involved, but more of an exhibition than anything else.

You need a Fountain, Cigarette, Formula, Baja, Scarab, Outer Limits or other type of GFBL boat.

Here is some more info . . .

I take it you don't play cards. :)

In short, you cruise to different establishments collecting one playing card at each venue involved in the Poker Run and try and create the best poker hand.......... They have them for snowmobiles, motorcycles, cars etc. Never did one myself.... Best hand wins whatever prize....

I would recommend joining in on a poker run if you get the opportunity. I've been in a few poker runs on the water and many at off road events. It's a lot of family fun as well, but can get costly depending on how much each hand costs. The odds are stacked against you but usually it's for a good cause.

Glad to hear they're having runs again at Texoma. There was a bad accident a few years ago that shut 'em down for a while.

They're loads of fun, and you don't HAVE to go fast. They generally turn the fast guys loose first so they don't run the rest of us over, some even have speed limits. Sometimes you can get a helicopter picture of your boat (mine's in my avatar). Entry fees vary, depending on the event.

The "less organized" fun runs are great too and they usually don't have much of an entry fee.

Try going on some of the organized boating events; you might be surprised. I'm generally antisocial but can't help having fun running the boats with likeminded people.
