tried to pull drive at 230 hrs, 160 under me. Have noticed water in bilge, about a cup, only after putting in, backing down ramp w/ outdrive up. More water if running w/ outdrive in shallow water to beach and backing, about 3 to 4 cups. To me sounds like a bellows. Transom shield looks dry and transom rot not apparant, but would not expect rot with a 2008 yet.
Did get the drive to pop by using a 2x4 piece to wedge in between the top cap and the gimble ring--popped right off. There was a fair amount of drive lube that was in the bellows, so I'm thinking the seal may be bad behind the yoke. A pressure test should confirm I guess.
Questions:
If water got into drive, I would think oil level would be high, not low? What are the chances the yoke seal is shot and is this time consuming to replace? Should you also replace the gasket between the outdrive and gimble housing (it's a square looking gasket that appears to seal the exhaust between the 2 halves. Of couse if ujoints are rusty, they will be replaced and gimble bearing checked. I'll most likely let the dealer do both if needed. I believe the ujoints are sealed and so is the gimble I believe, but I'm not sure.
