My Rinker is 26 years old and the drive lube bottle started leaking lube. I tell others that its the drive lube cap but never had the actual problem, and this time got to test. Bought new bottle and just put the new cap on the old bottle. All good no bubble up or leaking.

The old cap valve was flat and the new one is kind of domed. Need others to have a look to see what thers look like. Wonder if its a new design or if it flattens out over time

Will see about taking a pic later and posting

Sometimes i often believe the failure of the Orange Valve on Mercruisers gear oil reservoir cap failure could be do to wear and tear of often grabbing it while opening/closing from services rendered plus the system builds about 7 psi while underway that i recall.

Do you recall doing anything differently recently to maybe help create a change even as small as leaning on the cap to do/reach something else?, etc.

Only have done the annual maintenance. The valve is still attached and the small tip remains visual on top. I did take the old off and clean under it thinking maybe there was a small something under it. Reinstalled and tried again, and it build and leak again.

Did find as the bottle fills the plastic bottle gets soft because of the hot lube. Once it cools back down it stiffens up again. I like the bottle because it can tell if the drive is leaking, but could make a better one easy enough. The switch is nice but for the most part not necessary for a drive that gets regular maintenance

My lube reservoir started leaking near hose connection. Hose was fatigued too and o-ring connection was not tightened. I guess vibration... Former owner didn't have sensor wires connected, but I have not discovered why. Try tighten or replacing o ring and check for fatigued hose.. Just a thought...

Leak can be also from under the bottle connection, Iā€™ve put some epoxy around to seal it as a prevention in the future plus new cap, cheap fix and insurance

I assume aluminum reservoir? I have never seen one made of aluminum, only plastic/synthetic. I guess I am really old school?

Would be nice to have an aluminum Res with a sight glass and actual replaceable check valve. If Merc made it the probably cost a grand

I am just getting old... His photo threw me off. Mine looks a bit different. I have two leads coming out for alarm and one lube hose. I can't figure why his has (what appears) three lube hoses, or photo's perspective is confusing me and what I assume are hoses are actually leads??? I cannot see lead ends. Notice synthetic hose barb on mine. I suspect I will replace with brass.
