Hi, I was given a project boat, not sure of the manufacturer, I haven't registered it yet, it came from a Resort that ran it as a charter boat.

Its 14ft fiberglass...
My question is, I have 3 drain holes, one for the shelf where the motor mounts (Normal) and one to drain water thats sits on the floor (Normal), but the third one it below the floor, with no access to the inside to plug it.

I saw a boat just like it one day (actually quite a few of them running around), and I asked the guy what to do, he said it is a dry well and I have to cut a hole in my floor to put a plug in it.

Thats fine, but what I don't understand is, how did they run this boat before, did they plug it from the outside??

Anyhelp would be great, I have a picture, kinda dark but if you want to see it send an email to rickhunt@prepaidlegal.com and just ask me to send you the pic.

Thanks
Rick

Does your boat have a livewell? If it does it's probably a fill/drain line for it and it's connected to rhe livewell with a hose. Plugging the drain in the well should keep water from getting in or out.

redbarron, if you are unsure of what it is, you can put a Garboard Drain & Plug in, have one on my boat and it works great..

By your description that sounds like the bilge drain to me and your boat will sink unless you plug it from the outside (which is the most common way to plug the bilge). Find a snap-plug that fits the sleeve in the drain if it didn't come with your boat. Remove the plug when you take the boat out of the water to drain off any water in bilge.

When you plug it from the outside use one of those T handled plugs you have to turn to tighten. If you use a flip type you run the risk of something getting caught on it and pulling it out. This will cause water to come in rather unexpectedly.
