Dirty River Problems?

I took my boat out last Sunday and the river was very trashy. There were sticks, muck, and trash everywhere. After running down river a ways, some of the sticks and stuff got lodged around the lower unit and the motor wasn't pushing the boat.<br />I stopped, raised the motor, and cleaned the stuff off. I ran a little ways and again had to stop tho clean the sticks off. After doing this four times I finally got to my fishing spot.<br /><br />What if anything can I do or adjust on my motor or boat to help keep sticks and things on the waters surface from collecting around the motor and causing the motor to do this ? <br /><br />1983 35 hp Johnson on a 14' Lowe "Big Jon"....

Not much short of having a tunnel hull boat.Be cautious that some of that debris can block your water intake and cause big problems,not to mention the propshaft.
