mellow lake erie is a funny place unless those dipsys take you down to about 75 feet gonna be tough. count the line and mark it as the dipsy dives a set amount for every foot in the water. If the lines not marked tough to know what depth your in. I mark the line every 10 feet with orange nail polish works for that application

mellowyellow- never used 'em for Wally but here are some things to note:

-use line counter reels

-ask fella's that use them for Wally if they use
snubbers.

-like planner boards you can plan on loosing some fish due to the forward harware giving the fish a
a 'leash' behind the diver.

-toss out the add-on depth rings.

-make sure rt and lft are set accordingly.

-test release presures

good luck

We use them trolling for salmon. It's difficult to tell the depth they're at since your trolling speed will change the diver's depth somewhat. A line counter doesn't tell you much until you facter in the angle of the dangle (now I know where that phrase came from!) using your high school geometry skills (unfortunatly, I flunked geometry....) I see Cabela's has a nifty wrist watch depth finder with a cordless transducer that will attach to your lure; hmmm....may have to get one of those.
An easier way to tell how much line you've put out is to remember that on most reels, one width of line coming off your reel equals about 10'. To make sure, measure yours. Then just count how many times the line has gone back and forth.
Still won't tell you the depth since the diver floats....
