DHADLEY....island camping around PORT CHARLOTTE.... DHADLEY.....

hello, i know dhadley knows this, but im open to anybodys ideas.<br /><br />are there any boat access only islands around the port charlotte, gasparilla, pine island area that allow free range camping, i.e, wherever you find a spot, you plop down and have at it.<br /><br />im in the saint pete area and usually go to shell key, just off fort desoto, and want to come down to this area as i hear its very beautifull, and i have a new boat and the whole week off.<br /><br />????

There were some cabins south of Boca Grande but Charley erased them. They were run and maintained by Lee County Parks & Recreation I believe. They weren't up last time I was out that way but that was a few months ago.<br /><br />As fas as island camping, yes there are some places over by Turtle Bay and Bull Bay that people camp at. There are some shacks on stilts that are privetly owned that we go to.

I'm in St Pete also. Have you ever gone just north up around Dunedin? There is a great camping island accessible only by boat - Caldesi.

you cant camp on caladesi island. you can opnly stay the night , at their docks, on your boat. i have a 21 mako, its kinda hard for the family tp sleep on it.<br /><br />you CAN camp at anclote key. and its free, and they even have toilets and picknk tables and grills.
