Does anyone Know - Will a 50hp, good running, 1991 Force perform better on a flatter bottom (Fisher Marsh Hawk modified V) than on a deep V of about the same weight. The motor is marginal on my present Mirrocraft Aggressor and I have the chance to buy the Fisher with a 60hp Mariner. I was thinking of changing the engines around. My thinking is that the flatter bottom should be easier to plane out than the deep V. Am I off base?

Howdy, Wood. Flat bottoms plane easier, go faster and ride rougher, all other things being equal. Ten hp is not going to make enough difference to make it worth while to swap the engines.

Your Aggressor will perform better with a hydrofoil and trim tabs. The difference will be much more than another 10hp.

Good luck.

Red sky at night. . . .
JB

Flat bottom boats are more stable. Deep V bottom boat take rougher water. If your boat won't come up on plane you have either too small and egine or too much weight in the rear of the boat.

Thanks for the info. Are trim tabs different than tilt & trim on the motor? I recently installed a hydrofoil and it made some difference but not as much as I had hoped.

Trim tabs attach to the bottom edge of your transom and give the stern extra lift. The automatic ones work very well.

JB
