I'm considering towing my 21' deckboat from Louisville, KY to Deep Creek Lake in Maryland the week of July 15th. I will be attending a wedding on Saturday, July 21, so my boating will be during the week. As I understand it, mid-week is better anyway because the lake is crazy on weekends.

What I'd like to know is where to launch (is the State Park ramp the only option?) and what to see and do. I will have some local non-boating guests and I'd like to take them to lunch or dinner. Any shallow areas to avoid? Any local "gotchas" regarding rules and regulations?

Re: Deep Creek Lake, Maryland Info

I've been there several times years and it was my favorite place to go for years. But that was back in the 80's. I went there last year and it was a zoo, but that was on a holiday weekend, I think it was Labor Day. Jet Ski's were everywhere and just took all the enjoyment out of boating. But I understand it's still great in the middle of a non-holiday week.

There are plenty of private ramps and you should have no trouble finding one near wherever you are staying. There is a little shopping area that has a couple nice restaraunts that you can pull up and dock the boat and do some shopping and go someplace to eat. I really don't remember the name of the place or how to tell you to get there on the water, but it's right on 219. Back in the 80's there was a place called McClives that was great, but doubt if it's still there.

I think you will enjoy the lake on a non holiday week. It's a great place.

I was up last year and was under the impression state park is only place to launch. At least for someone like you or me. We don't have our own property that is.
There are many more restrictions on jet skis now. Google that for exact info.
My wife and I enjoyed the Honi Honi bar which is right on 219 but the have a reasonable size dock on te water for guests. An UNOs is next to it for food as the bar only serves drinks. Live music is usually and option there too. Large yard between lake and bar for relaxing frisbee. Etc. There is also an ice cream joint on the water with dock access for your sweet tooth.

Places to anchor would be just explore the "fingers". You'll find someplace quite that you'll enjoy.

I hope you've already booked. My wife and I just tried to find something for next weekend but no luck. Our original vaca plans feel thru.

Where are you staying if I can ask?

I have family and friends in the Frostburg and Cumberland area and will stay down there. I will store the boat on the trailer at an RV place close to the lake. My boating will be launch and retrieve the same day.
