deck pipe ..confused

does anyone have a photo or can describe the best way to install a deck pipe....im confused...i was told to place the opening away from the bow to prevent water infultrating the cabin..if it is placed that way i dont understand how the anchor rope will go to the bow and front cleat as it will be coming out facing the stern..this deck pipe has a hinged cap which closes over the anchor line..can sombody please staighten this out for me once and for all..thank you so much

The deck pipe IS installed with the hole toward the rear of the boat so that while underway, splashed water will not enter it.

You simply open the cap, pull out the length of line you need, and secure it to the cleat with some slack on deck. Then reclose the cap.
