Hey everyone

Ok one My cylinder Head is cracked

1989 mercruiser 4.3L V6 262 2 barel Cast Iron Head

Can I just get a head from the junk yard and throw it on or does it have to be a Special "Marine Head"

I already have the gasket kit and the engine is in pieces in the driveway

If I absolutely need a Marine head, Does anyone know where I can get a decently priced one. I'm in Burlington Ontario Canada ad I'm willing to drive as far as Buffalo, Windsor, Barrie or kingston

Thanks

Re: Cylinder head cracked!!

You can use an automotive head, just make sure any core plugs are changed over to brass and you use a marine head gasket.

Re: Cylinder head cracked!!

Does everyone else Agree with Mr 500. There is no difference between a 1989 Mercruiser V6 4.3l 262 cylinder head and say a 1989 Chevy S10 4.3 L 262 cylinder Head. They are both Identical engines. I know the gaskets and some bearings are different on a marine engine but what about the valves , springs and rockers. Are they all just stalk pieces?

Like Don said, check your casting numbers, google that casting number and I'm sure you will find a make/model/year in some of the results to point you in the right direction.

She springs, rockers and valves should all be the same.
