the battery i have for starting my motor is 625 cold cranking amps. recently i read somewhere that for a 150 motor it should be around 1000 cranking amps. is this correct? Is there a general rule of thumb?

1000MCA is recomended.

625CCA should be fine, however, i only know MCA when it comes to boats.

i always have run 1100 cca group 27 batteries for starting, on 4 cylinder and above. i like to know i have the reserve power when needed. 625 is fine for a 2-3 cylinder motor.
