HI

I have just signed up to iboats and find the information here very interesting

I have a 2000 model 135hp optimax CR but have just fitted a new control/throttle box
and the forward and reverse are mixed up

1) do I change the throttle control box (how dificult is this excercise)
or
2) can I simply fit a standard propeller and get on the water ( will running a standard prop on a CR engine damage my gear box)

Sourcing CR throttle control has proved quite complicated so far

thanks

cheers

Are you sure your motor is designed for counter rotation? If so, you need a left hand prop,,, using a right hand prop, will have you going backwards in forward gear, and forward, in reverse. Plus I would think you need a dedicated C. clockwise control box for this motor.

If you have a Mercury/Quicksilver control box and which one you have, you can normally change the shift cable to go the other way.
Do you know what control box you have (model or part number) or can you post a picture of it?

You cannot run a gearcase backwards ( right hand prop on a left hand gearcase), you will quickly destroy the gearcase.

Re: Counter rotating Mercury optimax 135hp

HI All

Thanks for the input.
Here is some more of the picture

the engine is one of twins that we purchased well priced and split between us
I have the CR (it has an 'L' stamped on the tip of the prop shaft) it did not come with a control box so a purchased a new Quicksilver box from the Merc agent ( neglected to tell them I had a CR as I thought it would make no difference).
Now the forward and reverse are mixed up.

How difficult is it to switch the mecahnism around in the control box as I have been quoted an extra $300 for a non quicksilver part and I am not sure it will be delivered for Xmas.

It's usually very easy, but one has to know what kind of shifter you have first. That is why I ask earlier what you had or a picture.
Merc designs them to be used with both standard and Counter rotation engines.
