I picked up this beauty last night. It's a 1972. Been completely restored. She's in mint condition, purrs like a kitten, and I got a good buy on her. The only thing I don't like is the motor cover. It's the original 1972 Johnson 50 horse motor which is fine, it runs great. Is there anyway to restore the motor cover? Or possibly get another one that is in better shape?20210706_190030.jpg

That one doesn't look too bad: I think I would just try to clean it up and paint it. BUT, you can find them on online used - and some new.

One of my hobbies is restoring old outboard motors. I have painted many outboard covers. Not just that but the whole motor as well.

By the picture yours doesn't need restoring. But if you insist its no trouble.

Pull off the clips holding the side panels and remove them. Strip the paint off everything and then prime with acid etching primer and then topcoat with a matching color from one of the repro companies. Yours appears to have painted emblems rather than decals, so that will save on the expense.

These were rusty and dented when I bought them...
