Just when you think you have it all straightened out. I have a 1992 WellCraft Center Console 18ft. It has a 1990 150 hp force outboard on it. I just replaced the control box. The cables still seem to be binding up a bit. They are 17Ft cable with number 8A26NTM (33C). Not sure if these are the right cables or if I should just replace them. Also are they the right length? Does anyone have the part number for the right cables?

Control cables need to be long enough that there is about a 2 foot loop in the splash well. Additionally, no sharp bends should be in the cables or they will bind even when new. Teleflex red jacket (33C are the correct cables. When in doubt, go longer on cables. It is way easier to throw an extra loop in them than to struggle with too short cables.

Measure from the console to the floor, that from the floor to the transom. measure up to the splash well and into the engine at the terminations. add all measurements and add at least two feet. Round UP to the nearest foot of available cable length.

You sure the control box is the right one?
Remove the connectors.
Turn the prop as you manually shift it.
Find N
Then at the shifter, move it back and fort and find N
Then at the cable ends. Adjust the connectors.
The throttle needs a tiny bit of tension when connected.
The shift just adjust till it slides over the connector.
If the motors not running. It will bind unless your turning the prop.
Then readjust in the water.
