I don't know how to do it and would really love to as live bait here sucks and is expensive.. I have heard various methods of dragging a dead fish with a string attached to it across wet sand from the seas wash and then when the worm pops up you grab it with a pair of pliers.. What about collecting worms on river sand banks?

Re: Collecting Sand worms from beach...

Thier is such a thing as a sand flea rake that is used here to collect sand fleas for bait. It is a wire mesh (hardwear cloth) basket with teeth on one edge that is drug through the top layer of sand and sifts out the sand collecting fleas and anything else that is too big to pass through. Not sure if such a rig would help in your quest because what it sounds like is something you have to shovel out. We have a worm that lives around oysters in the mud that usually you can find enough by turning over some oyster shells but usually small bait fish that are castnetted or trapped in a minnow trap are the prefered live baits here. Of course if the shrimp are in you can cast net them as well and that is a primo bait. A substitute for the worm I mentioned is taking a can of regular bait shop/garden worms and using them instead but if I am going that route I prefer pieces of fresh shrimp from the seafood market. If you give me a little more info about what this bait is and it's habits and such I bet I might be able to come up with something that may help.
