Volvo Penta 270 1986

I hear a clicking noise when cracking the motor. The battery gauge is only showing between 8 to 10 volts. Would this indicate the reason why the motor will not crank and you only hear the clicking noise cause it does not have enough juice in it to turn it over? Also, would this prevent the trimming of the motor going up and down as well?

If your battery is fully charged and it occurs again, check the ground connections.

Bob

If battery is charged and trim (up/down) works, along with some other accessories....head for the starter motor. Sounds like worn brushes if the battery checks out. Tap the starter gently and try to start again, if it starts, I think you have found your problem.
