Are we allowed to post classifieds here? Not really sure. I have seen a few items mentioned for sale.
I frequent auctions and I run across alot of great deals. I know we have a classified section but the item I wish to sell is too low to support the ad.
Sorry Iboats, but I would like to mention it to the members.

Re: Classifieds????

I don't have a problem with selling something if for example, Lets say you have a lower unit that you wish to sell for a rare outboard for which parts are difficult to find and you happen to see a post where someone is looking for that particular lower unit and can't find one, then by all means hook up with that person and try to sell it because it may benefit the person who is looking....

However, it occurs to me that posting just to advertize items for sale seems like it may cause people to avoid the forum.... I'm avoiding the one who has posted "motor flushers" for sale as we speak... Let's not turn the forum into an online flea market...

I'm just glad your asking first before trying to advertise...

My 2 cents worth...

Re: Classifieds????

EBAY, my friend!

I love the sandy banks of the Missouri River. I also love to eat bacon cheeseburgers. But put a big helping of sand on my cheeseburger... ruins them both.

I like Ebay, and I love this forum... but I won't talk fishing on Ebay, and the only thing I'll be selling on here is my point of view - and sales are down! :D

MG, if it is an oldmotor or part to one, there is an option. There is a webertize section on the The Outboard Motor club site. Here is the link.

http://www.aomci.org

Re: Classifieds????

Thanks JB.

Take a peek at www.floridasportsman.com

If one would look at the Florida Sportsman's web page and click on their fishing forum (at the top of the lefthand column) one would note three things:

First, the format for their forum looks suspiciously like Iboats format. :D

Secondly, they have seven different threads that allow members to post items for sale.

Thirdly, note that they forbid businesses to use these threads for advertising.

When Admin 5 returns, perhaps he and his dad would consider adding some threads to this board that would allow members to advertise items they would like to sell. That would allow members to advertise "used/unique" stuff without giving the appearance of spamming and drawing grenades from folks who are offended by spammers.

If so, Iboats should likewise forbid businesses from advertising products -- even if some of the businesses are true philanthropist.

Please give me a sanity check...

thanks!!!

Moose

I like your new logo. It's charging at us head-on rather than running the other way. I like the symbolism! Glad you're back!

Re: Classifieds????

Sorry,MG but iboats does not have one. The subject has popped-up many times, If you are like me,and have been done dirty by ebay, try clicking this link and registering as a member. They have many classified areas, and it's all free.
Drawback here is, it's mainly a Florida site,so expect shippin/handlin to be a larger issue.

Re: Classifieds????

When I sell on eBay I find the same item I want to sell, then click on completed items, and see what that item has sold for.If I like what I see I will list the item starting at $9.99 and it only cost about 45 cents or so to list it.If the same item hasn't been selling well I just stick it in the barn.

OMC

Re: Classifieds????

iboats has one of the most visited boat classifieds on the planet (currently 6+ searches per second 24/7). Until now it has been too pricey ($39.95) to post an add for less expensive boats and other stuff. We are working on additional categories where you can list stuff under a certain value for quite a bit less than our normal listing fees. This feature of the classifieds should be working soon (no idea if 2 days, 2 weeks, but less than 2 months). Hope this helps.

Re: Classifieds????

So THAT'S where you've been hiding, Admin.
It's good to hear about the proposed addition.
I wasn't even aware of the 40buk thing.
As for EBAY:

I put a boat hull/trailer on Ebay, and it sold for 300buks. I was impressed,as I only had 100buks in it to begin with, and momma wanted it gone....Until a month later, when I got a notice of my checking account having 40 buks deducted from it for a "store front". Add to this, the following month, I got another 40 dollar deduction for the same thing after it was suposedly "closed" the month before!

All I can add is, "never again".
