Ciscos are in the whitefish family but are not the same species as a whitefish. A cisco has an upturned mouth whereas the lake whitefish is more down. Whitefish are excellent eating and cisco's from my experience tend to be a bit stronger flavored. Both tend to be tougher to catch but often depends on the lake. In really clear deep water they like to suspend in schools. We catch them ice fishing on small jigs with a small minnow or worm piece. Some people get them on a fly behind a few split shot. One thing is for sure is they put up a good fight.

Good luck

Re: cisco

I agree about the whitefish. We don't have them down here, of course, but had some in Green Bay a few years ago and they were excellent. My wife and I had them almost every night we were there and didn't get tired of them. Havn't had any since, though.
