Does anyone have experience with choosing an engine for a Glen-L Monaco or have recommendation for a moderate HP, compact size marine engine? Could be new or rebuilt recommendation. Pros and Cons of various choices. Thanks

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,...... Are you goin' Inboard, or I/O power,..??

For the motor, Chevy is the only way to go, I-4, 3.0l, 140hp, or V-6, 4,3l, 'bout 200/ 225hp, or V-8, 5.0l, 5.7l. or big block, from 200hp, on up, dependin' on yer budget,.....

welcome aboard.

what are the spec's beam, length, etc?

for a pure in-board, I would look at one of the later LS or LT packages

If you are building your drive/gear/gland/rudder/strut assembly by yourself, find a late-model ski boat that was wrecked for the motor and gear

I'm somewhat familiar with Glen-L, and know the Monaco however I did have to look up the build specs.

The boat was designed by Glen Witt I think in the late 60's early 70's, so it specs a 250-350 CID engine.

If you convert that into modern times, the 4.3L replaced the 250 I6. So 'compact' would be the 4.3L... A modern LS V8 can be made to run in a boat very easy for 300+ HP.

Find a donor boat with V-8 Mercruiser.-------That would have everything needed for the installation.----Often available for $1000 or less.

The Monaco is designed as a straight inboard.
