checking Rpm,s??

Is there a way to check rpm,s on outboard motors. Perhaps a tack meter of some kind. (hopefully fairly cheap). If so how would it be hooked up. Thanks for any help.

Teleflex and Faria both offer tachometers for outboards. Cheapest is called Tiny Tach and is easiest to install. Otherwise, just follow the directions in the kit. On Teleflex and Faria tachs, there are four wires. One for the internal light, ground, +12volts and the tach signal from the engine.
