Check the Kill Switch when the engine won't start

Just a funny story on myself, but a good lesson.
I went to do my monthly engine run, just to keep it lubed, etc., in the driveway with the water hose hooked up and couldn't get the thing started. It would sound like it was firing a little. Got some starter fluid, would fire a few times then quit. Thought I was going to wear out my starter. I happened to look at the kill switch and for some reason it was just slightly off.
pushed it in the "on" position all the way, fired right up.
Felt kinda stupid, but a cheap lesson.

Read your post. Just to let you know starter fluid is made for diesel engines only. It will burn your pistons up. Terminology "pre-ignition"
If found in your boat it carries a heavy fine. It is dangerous. It can backfire and burn you.
Throw it away. It's an aerosol bomb.

Escuse me Gene, but where is it written that starter fluid is illegal on a motor vessel? Also, it isn't good for diesels either. I can see two convicts sitting in their cells talking. What ya in for said one convict. Murder, what you in for? Carrying starter fluid on a boat.

Thanks, won't touch it again.
But, don't remember reading any regulations against.
