IM looking to buy a lower end chartplotter to help me navigate around the Long Island sound area while Im fishing. I was looking at the Standard Horizon cp150 for around $400 plus the detailed chart(c-map-nt)for my area for $200. There are two other models in my price range, the Raymarine Raychart 425 and the Garmin 162.

I would appreciate any info on these units. I have read up on them, but there is nothing like experienced knowledge. THANKS

Howdy, Dcrann.

I have a Garmin 162 and am very happy with it.

I don't fish salt water any more, but I use the Mapsouorce Fishing Hotspots CDROM for selected lakes while it is on the boat, and the US Roads and Recreation CDROM while I have it mounted in my vehicle.

Very user friendly unit and user friendly software.

I bought my unit on Ebay for about half price. I also bought the 2 CDROMs on Ebay for well below list.

Good luck. :)

Hi, Dcrann.

It is a good idea to pick a Forum and post there. Multiple posts only cause confusion.

Re: Chartplotters ??

Thanks, I checked out some of the garmin models and I need a garmin with the blue chart feature and the means a garmin 182 at the min. That spells out of my price range. I want the chart plotter to look just like a real chart.

I posted in the fishing forum too because I wasnt getting any response in the boating forum in the other.

The Bluecharts are available on CDROM for the 162.
