changing outboard what do i need to know before i start

i have a 120hp 1987 outboard with trim and tilt. temp gauge. the engine has the red plug. i want to change it to a 70hp 1984 outboard no trim and no temp that also has the red plug. my question is can i just plug the engine in and should it work. can i install a temp sendor on the 70 and would the trim and tilt be a option if i also move the control box. my calculation is that this will reduce the weight on the back by 130lbs and allow me to move the engine back to the transom doing away with the jack plate that has a 6" stand off. my 16' statos always seems to be tilted backwards while im fishing

ops forgot to ask where do i chain to on the 120 as it has no lifting hook
