I'm planning on changing my deck color from black to gray. I also want to change the color of the edge of the boat. Please see picture for description. I want to know how to remove the black rubber seals to replace the carpet. Advise would be greatly appreciated. Thx

The center part, the rubber strip, of the rub rail is inserted in the outer "rail", usually made of aluminum...
To remove it you must remove the rubber insert, then behind that you will find either screws, rivets, bolts or whatever fasteners the Manufacturer used to attach the aluminum rail to the hull...once you take those out, the rail will usually come off, but it may be held in place with a marine type sealant, which you will also have to separate...
This is one of those projects that are easier said than done...if the rubber is in good shape and is still pliable, you might get it all out with out tearing...if you are careful removing the fasteners and sealant, you can get the rail off with out any damage...
Take your time and you can reuse everything except of course the sealant...:)
Best of luck and if you get stuck or need more info, just holler...

There seems to be an additional rubber strip running along both sides of the carpet, ON top of the gunwale. It actually looks like the rubber edge might be a factory binding on the carpet.

Interesting, what yr/model/maker boat?

Might get lucky & it's 2 pieces of rubber & a center insert of carpet. The rubber looks like it might be similar to the 1 on the right:

They pull right out, straight up.

Remove your nose cap at the bow and the 2 transom gussets, grab an end and pull straight up.

My Tracker has the same rubber trim at the gunwales.

Be careful not to get carpet adhesive in the groove they set in or you'll have to dig it out to reinstall the trim.
