Has anyone ever extended the axel or axels on a center lift pontoon trailer for more stability ? I really like how it works launching and loading , but my driveway has a little drop to it and it makes me nervous to pull the narrow trailer up and down it . So I thought about extending the axel to outside of the toons for more stability?? Any thoughts ???

Not unless you bring out the frame and springs to support the axle.

Ayuh,... Which would then interfere with the 'toons,...

Also, with most pontoons that will put you over legal width on the road.

What about going higher with the center and beefing up the frame and putting tired under the toons ? I'm having cavitating issues and have to lower my motor which puts me about an inch off the ground .

You would be way better off getting another trailer.

I have seen situations like that and often wondered why they didn't have some form of training wheels to add support if it leans over too much.

as others mentioned I don't think extending the axle is feasible but I wonder about how hard it would be to mount stabilizer wheels to only contact the road if its tilting too far.

If you want a wide trailer sell what you have n get a wide trailer...... chances are you are nervous for no good reason.... maybe you need to stop in your driveway wherever you most think it will tip and get out n rock it.... I BET you find that it's a lot more stable than you think

That's why the title of the thread is called "Center Lift Trailer".

This is different than pontoon trailers that have bunks under the pontoons themselves..

Having owned a scissor trailer for many years, I can tell you that it is MUCH harder to tip them than you would think... Where I stored my pontoon, I had to pull uphill and make a left turn when going to the ramp. You would swear it should have tipped, but years later, not a problem.

Thanks for help fellas . Either I'm going to get a bunk trailer until then I'm going to lay a 2 x 10 at the end of the driveway to fill the gap . Hopefully that wil take a little of the sway out . Thanks

if you have a 4 wheel drive, another thing you can do is use low range and first gear to slow things down
