center console location

i have an 18' starcraft mariner that i'm refurbing. Since i'm putting an entire new floor in, i have the opportunity to put the fibreglass center console anywhere i want. What does everyone recommend as the best location for the console as far as boat performance and personal taste? My 'boat guy' says to move it as far aft as possible, but i don't want to move it so far back that it makes the back of the boat 'confined'.

Welcome to iboats.<br /><br />If it was me which it's not, it would go back where it was at.<br />The people that built the boat knew where to put it for the best ride and performance.<br />Like I said, I would put it back to where it was.<br />Just my .02 worth and again, welcome to iboats.

thanks for your $.02 SBN. I've had some great advice on this forum for a hydraulic jack plate a few months ago by reading other threads and followed everyones advice. It was in installing this jack plate and new motor that i hit a soft spot in the floor and decided might as well rip it all apart and get it right from the get-go. Anyway.. the fibreglass console was put in my boat aftermarket by some marina in florida. And they put it pretty far forward so i have no idea where the original was orginally set-up. My buddy has the same boat, but again, he built his after repairing the floor and put it almost all the way back for 'duck hunting' (left the entire bow wide open to fill w/ dekes). I also posted this on the starcraft forum but didn't get any bites yet. I'll keep looking.. thx!!!

Ok, gotcha. If your going to fish from it, I would make me a good front deck as far as size and then mount the comsole somewhere toward the end of the deck.

Make sure all the deck is in approx. position with seats etc. put console in boat , use a bathroom to great tongue weight , allow 25% less for gear you are going to put in boat befor launching , you should plane OK !
