I have approximately 1" to 2" play at my steering wheel. Is this normal or are they way to tighten. When driving the boat it seems to stick until I put some pressure on the steering wheel.
Thanks for any advice or comments

Gee, what kind of steering? Hydraulic? Rack and Pinon cable? rotary cable? cable and pulley?

If you have cable steering, check the nut where the cable connects to the helm.

I had something similar and the nut was a turn and a half loose.

Gee, if that happened to me it would be the loose nut on the steering cable and behind the steering wheel. But that is just me!

I know it is not Hydraulic steering. It is standard steering on 2014 198DlV carolina skiff. I guess it would be rack and pinon?

Look under the dashboard. Rack and Pinon steering will have a long bar-shaped mechanism. Rotary steering will have a round steering mechanism.

if its rack or rotary with a cable, and it is stiff until you have to force it, the cable needs replacing. that means moisture is in the jacket, and the cable has worn thru the inner sleeve and is rusting to the outer sheath.
