My 1989 Mercruiser 4.3 2 barrel MerCarb needs replaced, what is my best choice? Could I put in the new 2V Carb with Turn Key Start & Electric Fuel Pump that Merc puts in the new Mercruisers? Would it help to make it start easier?

Re: Carb swap

TKS (Turn Key Start) is nothing more than a very EXPENSIVE almost works process so you don't have to learn how to start a carbed engine. Brought about because kids that don't know what a carb or choke does can hopefully start the engine like they would their EFI car engine.

Re: Carb swap

Thats what I thought! I like the fact I can see if my choke is open or closed and watch the fuel spray in when I manually pump the throttle. Less wires to me seems like less trouble out on the lake with no help in sight.

Re: Carb swap

I am sort of of the opinion that it's better to replace the carb with the correct (maybe original) type.

You can go to http://www.marinecarburetor.com/index.html and they'll either rebuild yours or replace it with a rebuild for a fairly reasonable charge.

Rick

btw, If you want "turn key start" get a new 4.3 MPI engine and bolt it in.

Agreed, the easiest ans cheapest solution is to put back exactly what you have now.
