Son was in accident and all ok and not his fault. Car B 2012 honda Civic worth maybe 6 to 7K

Car A hits car B and A is at fault. Both have insurance and car B has only liability. Car A insurance will pay to fix B, but will only pay for rental when the car is "actually" being repaired. Carb B can be driven but seat belt doesn't work and air bag was deployed.

The issue is unable to "legally or safely" drive car B and insurance won't budge.

Anyone know of options to cover rental while waiting to get car repaired?

That doesn't sound right because Car B cannot be legally or safely driven. I am not sure what you can do about it, however. I don't know if your repair shop can help you out or if YOUR insurance company can give you some wisdom and help in dealing with this. How well do you know your agent?

Have car towed to repair facility. From there, grab the rental. They should pay

Thank God he wasn't hurt: I lost a friend to a car wreck this past week.

I didn't think a vehicle was considered "drivable" after an airbag deploy. Might talk to your insurance agent about that ... they may be able to tell you how to get the rental covered by the other driver.

File a claim on your son’s insurance and they will subrogate the claim. Meaning they will collect the money to pay for rental and his car to be fixed including your deductible. All insurance companies suck I know I’ve been in the industry for over 12 years now.

All-State is the worst, (at fault driver) . They are going to total his car but is waiting to settle so he is without a car. He keeps calling, and told him that that is bad idea because they know he needs money.

Yes he does, guess I could float him the money but have done it so many times with no pay back im tired of bailing him out

AD...... sounds like my dad referencing my brother regarding actual bail money...... LOL

I have always owned multiple $100 crap-boxes growing up older. usually the cars that the cost of registration was more than the cost of purchase. now days these are the $500-1000 cars, however not sure if your son is handy and could go that route until the insurance is settled.

the value of the Honda is the limiting factor here as the insurance wants to total out the car because repairs exceed 50% of the value. so they want your son to be willing to settle for a low pay-out

More info and the rest of the story

Son did not have insurance so the other cars insurance company "Allstate" says he is 1/2 at fault because making an illegal U-turn and saying they will only pay half the cars worth $3550.00. KY insurance commissioner will not return any calls, so no advice there.

I see Allstate knowing Son needs the money so they are stone walling him. If he could just hold on long enough they would be required to close the file. I could loan him the money but he made the decision.

And turn was not illegal
Where is the citation from police … no citation, no illegality … shame the boy didn’t have insurance. Hopefully he learns a lesson. I do have issues with uninsured/under insured drivers who don’t have the financial wherewithal to absorb a major accident …

Agree, cop didn't write a citation

Also agree with no insurance, hate that.
Asked him before when we were talking about full coverage cost and couldn't figure out why he was so high, but now I know why
