Re: capping a thru hull?

So you have 2 holes in your boat, under the water line, that you don't want to fix correctly, but you want to "cap" them so you can quit worrying about them?

You could use a seacock on the other one and drive a wooden plug into both of them, like they use on sail boats to stop sudden leaks.

You could connect them together with a hose clamped on their outlets so they flowed water between them.

You could attach a rubber hose to them and bend and clamp the ends over to stop the flow.

Course I would still be worried about the "fixes" coming loose, a clamp rusting or releasing for some other reason.

Seems to me the best option would be to remove and repair the glass, or 2nd, install another seacock (that's partially what they are designed for) and maintain them in working condition.

I wouldnt remove the thru hulls and glass it, you never know later on down the road when you may want to use them again. Personally I would just cap off and double clamp them.

If they are Threaded through hull fittings..then pipe cap or pipe plug..

If they are just hose barbs..then best bet would be to double clamp hose to the barb..run them above the waterline and cap them off..
