I decided to replace the female part of the canvass snap that is all along the egde of my mooring cover..i removed all the rusty , damaged snaps and purchased some new snaps from west marine..I boroowed a snap setter which looks like a cheap pair of pliers....every snap i set the shaft does not roll down but instead kinda explodes and winds up looking like a flower inside..i thought the shaft was too long but i was told that the size i purchased is the standars size and should be fine..i also tried the old fashioned die/tap method and have had the same results...Its driving me crazy can anyone help...please!!!!!

Re: Canvas snap disaster

Sounds normal to me. Mine does that and all my replacements have held up fine for the last 5 years.
