here's a good one... driving home today and i hear a story on the radio about all the various groups around the u.s. and world that have a problem with christmas celebration. one town had to change the name of their tree from christmas tree to holiday tree so they didn't offend people not celebrating christmas, and now aetheists are upset because they have no reason to celebrate at all. another place changed plans for santa visiting a school to a holiday clown!!! another school actually instructed their santa to not talk to certain kids that didn't celebrate christmas at home. i personally think it's nuts. how can someone be offended by a simple, harmless holiday??? merry christmas everyone...

Re: cancel christmas???

This is completely nuts. Our country was built on religion.

Take a look at your money. what does it say...."In God We Trust". You sure don't see them complaining about the money (unless they're not getting enough from our tax monies)

We took religion out of the school....Look at the morals of kids today...That sure did a lot of good.

They want to be politically correct...BS! Let them express their viewpoint, but then keep the foundation our country was built on.

I have a great email with all kinds of examples but I will not post that here.

If you're interested in it, email me and I'll send it to you.

Wouldn't want to cause any problems for the moderators here. they have to keep a tight ship and I really don't fell like starting stuff this close to CHRISTMAS...CHRISTMAS...CHRISTMAS.

There said it, can't make me take it back.

In God I Trust...

Keltonkrew

Re: cancel christmas???

Some real religious folks find Santa Claus himself offensive. I don't remember anything about a fat guy in a red suit in any of my New Testament readings.

Don't get me wrong here, I have 2 children, so the Santa Claus thing always has , and with one, still does, play out every year. But if one must be politically correct, one must examine the word CHRISTmas, and whose birth it signifies. If some athiest scumbag doesn't want to celebrate Christmas, screw 'em, I won't send 'em a fruitcake :p

Christmas will never be cancelled, it would be devastating for our economy.

I dont know about that moose.... i would have a lot of extra money to invest long term in the markets w/o out it!!! ;)
X-mas is needed... religious celebration or just another reason to be kind/generous for the atheists. Either or both, doesnt really matter. Merry Christmas everyone!

KeltonKrew,

I doubt any of the moderators would have any problem with your proposed posting unless: it personally flames another board member.

That's what all the hoopla was about-personal flames.

Moose you and I agree on one thing. Our economy could not handle it if Christmas was cancelled. I have come to the conclusion that Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, Mothersday, Fathersday, and my birthday are all perpetuated by the retailers of america with one aim and thats to separate me and my money.
BAH HUMBUG.

P.S Merry Christmas everyone.

This is thin ice, friends.

So far, everyone has been courteous, but some of us are very sensitive about our beliefs. Please be careful.

How about researching the history of the celebration of Christmas? You might get more than one surprise. :)

Re: cancel christmas???

Being on the "other" side I have to say good job for those still willing to even say Christmas in a school. We can talk all about the secular aspects the presents and mr S.Clouse but we can't say anything about the C word. Heaven forbid we offend someone. It's a fine line and schools have to watch out because the next thing is a lawsuit which we can't afford. It goes so far as little Johnny has to leave the room if a parent brings in cupcakes for Suzie's birthday because Johnny's parents don't believe in celebrating anything. So now you have 29 kids eating a cupcake and such and one left out which do you think in the kids mind is worse? All the PC we have to watch for is crazy and tiresome. Now I don't want to combine religion and school (been there done that and it has it's own problems) but I also don't want to take things like Christmas and Easter out because of it.

Re: cancel christmas???

Welcome to the great melting pot called America.Where being politicaly correct is now in style.Where just recently New York City was called the "doormat" to the world.Would'nt want to offend anyone! .We are being offended by them! How dare these people even suggest such a thing!?This is right up there with "should English be the official language of the U.S.?".I'm sick and tired of people trying to influence me,to change the way I think.People that have a problem with Christmas being celebrated here should go back to their country of origin and celebrate thier "holiday" there. We don't interfere with thier holidays. Why must we change Christmas to make everyone else happy?Seems to me there are too many crazy people in this country with too many opinions and too much time on thier hands.LOL
Merry Christmas iboaters! :D

Yes, we have truly become the "United States of the Offended". You can hardly do or say anything without someone claiming to be offended. This is even permeating our corporate cultures and we get sent to "diversity training" on a regular basis. The cost of all this shows up in the price of the product, of course. Nobody has any sense of humor anymore. I'm a Catholic, live in the deep south and of French extraction to boot. I like funny jokes about all three subjects. Too many people take themselves too seriously.

Re: cancel christmas???

Greetings from your friendly local athiest...

I don't find myself offended by any religious holidays... I feel that if religion does good things for you, gives you guidance, and makes you feel at peace, then by all means practice your religion untill your hearts content....

Some people (nuts is a good word for em') just can't respect and appriciate the fact that all people are different with different views and ideas... I hope the religious folks here can respect and appriciate my views as I do theirs...

I honestly tried Christianity and found it was not for me.... I found it too depressing, I don't know why?.... Possibly because too many did not practice what they preached....

Do I celebrate Christmas you ask?... Yes, sure do, though maybe not for the exact same reasons as religious folks do...

For myself, Christmas is a time to be close with Family and Friends whom I may not see for much of the year... It's a time to give more back to society and the less fortunate...

And a time to watch the same old lousey Christmas movies and TV "specials" like, It's a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story (you'll shoot your eye out), and the Beavis and Butthead Christmas special... :D (I had to lighten things up) :D

MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY CHANUKAH, HAPPY NEW YEAR....

p.s. Moose: I'm glad I'm not getting a fruit cake from ya... I have enough doorstops around here...

I was wondering when this kind of post was going to show up...

All I have to say is:

Sorry, Homerr. We are required to be courteous here. ED.

Politically correct...HA ! Don't even get me started on that topic! I should have put that one on my rants' posting.

I almost puked when that wako judge tried to bar the 'One nation under GOD' from our pledge of allegiance.

Kinda straying from topic....

Merry CHRISTmas !!!!

H.

Re: cancel christmas???

friends, started this yesterday and was glad to see the regulars chime in as expected. lots of good posts with (as jb would appreciate) minimal insults to anyone.

my thoughts are simple- i enjoy the holidays, santa, christmas trees, buying presents, etc. i also enjoy watching my friends celebrate channukah and kwanaza (sp?), and support them. i'm not offended that candles are lit or that they get presents every day (actually a bit jealous).

bottom line- this place we live is all about acceptance. don't tell me what and how i celebrate offends you and i will do the same.

Speaking of cancelling Christmas, did anyone read the new John Grisham book about "Skipping Christmas"?

It's (the book) a real departure from his usual topic lines, but a fun read none the less.

Re: cancel christmas???

I'm responding to recent invitations to leave my country because I don't subscribe to particular views expressed here. To disagree with someone else's view is not a reason to be forced to leave a country which was founded in part on the premise that such freeness of speech was necessary to avoid tyranny. I believe in the separation of church and state, strict hand-gun control, respect of individual's rights to expression (including freedom from oppression). And I'll respect and disagree respectfully, in order to protect and defend that which this country has given me and I would suggest to those that prefer to have those rights rescinded to find themselves a country that accomodates them ;) - one which restricts the expression of ideas and oppresses the individual's rights.

Edited for grammatical errors

Re: cancel christmas???

Just a couple of thoughts.

Our Nation was founded on, among other freedoms, Religious Freedom. Not on religion.

The winter celebration we now call Christmas evolved from a pagan celebration of the Winter Solstice, not from religion.

MY pledge of allegiance to MY flag was captured in 1956 and illegally modified in defiance of the constitution. My religious freedom was taken away and I am forced to pay lip service to someone else's religion.

Religious freedom in this country is a joke. The myth that this is a Christian country, founded on religion, is just the punchline.

I respect your right to your beliefs and to practice your religion, so long as your freedom ends where mine begins. :)
