I have a 1994 Evinrude 115 V-4 model # E115TXARC. My VRO has been disconnected and I would like to replace the VRO pump with a regualar fuel pump. Does anyone out there know if this is possible? If so, can I get a part number?

Thanks,
Pat

If your VRO pump is working fine, leave it. If you feel it must be replaced, yes, you can replace it with a fuel only pump. See your Johnny dealer. There are a couple of different pumps that will work.

Very nice. I hope my local dealer will be able to help me out. I called one guy at Go2Marine and he wasn't helpful, said I could not do it and it was a $10,000 fine for tinkering with emissions.

That person apparently didn't want to be bothered. The job of a fuel pump is to pump fuel. The float in the carb sets the fuel level so the pump has absolutely nothing to do with emissions. Besides, those engines had no emission certification anyway..

why would you want to do away with the VRO2? That unit is very reliable. Somebody has misinformed you if you think it doesn't work well. Read the Faqs page on VROs which seahorse posted.

The VRO was disabled when I bought the boat. I've heard they are unreliable, but I have no firsthand experience

I replaced mine with a standard fuel pump. The VRO pump went out on my '90 90hp Johnson and I had to get the motor rebuilt.

There's a couple fuel pumps you can use - the more expensive one bolts up exactly where the old VRO pump did. The other one needs to just hang there or you can make your own bracket to mount it. I think they cost somewhere around $130 and $90 respectively.

If it were me, I'd keep it disconnected. There was no warning for mine going out, no alarm. $2000 later, I have a rebuilt motor, but I sure wish I'd have known before hand about disabling the VRO and just mixing my fuel.

I hope my firsthand experience will help you or someone else save some money. In fact, you could use the money you saved to contribute to my rebuilt outboard fund...

I do have first hand experience with the VRO system and it has been great.
My 1986 Evinrude 40 VRO had the original fuel/oil pump on it for many years. I think it was probably the original and when I had to replace it in 2004, it was because of the fuel pump failure, not the VRO. Make sure your alarms are functioning if you do run the VRO.
If you wanted to reinstall and check the operation of your VRO system, run pre-mixed fuel while you verify the VRO is working. I put a piece of tape on my oil tank and ran pre-mix long enough to be sure it was taking oil from the tank. After about 18 gallons of fuel, (6 gallon tanks), I felt comfortable that the VRO was working and ran it for 1.5 seasons before the fuel side quit on me.

When disabling the VRO, why can't you just use the same fuel pump that came with it??
