Ok, I would like to use my runabout for some fishing now and then. My windshield is like yours and does not have a walk-thru. How do you hook up your anchor while in deeper water? Do you just climb over the windshield? Or is there a better way?

AK Chappy

chappy, check my sig out. I had a 1 piece windsheild and cracked it while climbing over it to get to the anchor. I am now replacing with a 5 piece and a walkthru door. Also adding a proper anchor well, and anchor roller. cheers

That is exactly what I am worried about. I don't want to do that to mine, but still want to be able to anchor off. I will be fishing on lakes and rivers.

AK Chappy

Chappy, A lot of folks install an anchor roller on the bow and run the anchor line to the driver's station, and cleat it off. It is a bit unsightly but effective. Another choice is to install a chock on the bow. Now using a boat hook, place the anchor line into the chock, and cleat it off. When it is time to pull anchor, motor forward to gain slack in the anchor line. Use the boat hook to remove the line from the chock and retrieve the anchor from the driver's station.

I am not a fisher so much, so feel free to ignore me if this is just dumb.

Why dont you just anchor off the stern?

If I am in a river, it is better to anchor off the bow. Actually, I would anchor both. Keep from swinging around in a circle.
Chris, I like that idea.
Now, why didn't I think of that.

Thanks all,
AK Chappy

Re: Calling Mark42 and others w/Runabouts

I anchor just off the beach with the anchor tied to the mooring bit on the bow and another line from a transom cleat to a stake in the beach. This keeps the bow facing the water so waves won't brake over the transom.

I can either reach the rope on the mooring bit with the boat hook over the windshield, or walk around in the water to untie it. Mostly I walk around. I havent anchored in deep water yet. So far I am always wearing a bathing suit so getting wet is part of the fun.

Maybe you can add a mooring bit close to the windshield so it can be easily reached over the windshield to untie the rope. A chock at the stem will keep the line where it's supposed to be.

I have a small loop tied in the end of my line so that even though I can't touch the mooring bit with my hand, the loop is just large enough to fit over the bit when the line is shaken a little (after I pull the line up with the boat hook). Not the best for rough water anchoring, but for my fair weather boating, it is just the ticket.

Ah just take the windshield off. My Baja never had one, came that way. I have stood on the bow and fished, but I couldn't bring myself to drill holes for a trolling motor. I bought a neglected Fish&Ski recently (cheap), everybody needs two boats right?
