Just got a new motor for the outdrive tilt system. We are having issues trying to figure out what cuts it out when the outdrive is in the full upright position. Is there a safety switch to cut it off. The outdrive kill is working when we lower it all the way but not when it's raised. Any ideas?

Sounds like you have wires crossed... sending unit/switch is normally on the outdrive...

That is where I would start...

;)

I have some service bulletins for 1988/89. One of these indicates the limit switch only works on the lower side. Bulletins states, driving the tilt for too long after the drive has reached its upper-most position, can caused the electric motor to burn, to avoid this a over-load switch can be fitted to the transom. The switch is connected in the ground circuit. Bulletin is not real clear, but looks like an automatic reset circuit breaker. Pn is 897815-7.

Nameless, there is nothing to turn the motor off at full lift...only a switch to stop it when the drive is all the way down....there is a slipper clutch built into the lift unit so when the drive gets stopped [or is at full lift] the electric motor will continue to run but the drive wont go any farther...you can usually hear the motor work harder when this happens, is one way to tell the dive is all the way up....
