Local news story today, thought I'd pass it along. Cabela's has stocked taged fish in a bunch of lakes all around the US, all different types of fish. If you catch one of the taged fish enter the tag # on the web site to claim. Must be regestered on the Cabela's web site. The lake in my area is only about a 1/2 hr ride for me:D. The web site also has a listing of lakes in different state's. Good Luck if your intrested, just wanted to pass it on.

Gimmick to get you to register so they can bury you in SPAM.

It's not a gimmick at all. 4 tagged fish were caught on Lake Powell allready. I have no idea what the prizes were for these tagged fish, but none the less they are being caught.

I think I read some of the rules & prizes, the big money was going to the first tagged fish caught & down from there. It only go's until June 14th I think. I have not received any junk from them in my email yet, we'll see what happens...

Nah, all you have to do is unchek the little box beside the "Recieve email and offers from Cabelas" and you won't get anything from them.

1. Look at the amount of personal data you have to supply to register.

2. Read the fine print that outlines what you agree to.

I am registered with Cabela's, not sure if that qualifies for the fishin' thing though. If they had put fish in the lakes I fish and in my state I'd probably register for the fish prize.

Is there a list of the lakes that they have stocked? Any in Maine perhaps?

Yes, there are 2 in Maine.

Go to Cabela's web site and click on the contest, then you can see where they put the fish.

well of course it's a marketing campaign for cabellas and other brands... they aren't just giving away money out of the goodness of their hearts. i signed up and read the rules... i haven't gotten any spam (yet) but the chances of winning anything are slim. its not the first tagged fish caught, either, its the first tagged fish out of the 60 "special" tags... they have 1000 tagged fish in one class, and then the 60 "special (series 1) tags and 3 of those win the top 3 cash prizes... but even if you win the million, you have to wait 50 years for them to pay you the whole 1 million. In addition, if you catch the fish with certain brands of line or a certain reel, then they give you some more bonuses (obviously they just want you to go spend money on these brands).

you probably have a better chance at entering a tournament to win money, but it doesn't hurt to have a chance i guess. you could always catch the fish first AND THEN register to collect the prize, so you don't have to worry about putting your information out there.
