Considering buying a Sea Ray. Don't know if a new one or 1-3 year old is the best bet. Does anyone have any experience with these. Looking at 34-36' boat.

smiwi

Re: Buy a New or Used Sea Ray? - Your Thoughts?

I was apprehensive about responding to this because I know my opinion has gotten Uncles, and friends mad at me ..but here goes.
If you boat where the seas get rough, I think the boat seaworthy but unsafe. Yes they are a soft riding boat and when you are docked they have all the cute, glittery garbage that sells the boat. Cup holders, rugs, lots of cabinets and doors. When travelling with this boat is when you have problems. You will be impailing yourself on those cupholders, you will bruise your ribs trying to get yourself from the deck down those right angled steps below. The carpeting is a nightmare with sand and the hatches are made cheap and rot.
Sitting on blocks in a dealership it seems real nice but if you boat and not just sit at the dock, you wont like them.
I don't know if they still 'Blow' their boats instead of 'Handlaying' it but that is why they are so heavy. it takes 3 times the Resin to give the boat the same strength as a hand layed boat. Heavyness means a smooth ride, it also means big gas dollars to move it through the water.
