Hi again,
I need to repair a broken shift arm on my 58 Evinrude 7.5 outboard. I'll enclose a picture tomarrow to show exactly what is going on, but for now I'll just say that it broke close by where the greese fitting is. The shifting arm looks a little pourous so I imagine it will be difficult if not impossible to weld. I'm thinking about JB weld.
any suggestions appreciated.
thanks again

There's a lot of pressure at that point. Epoxy repair probably won't last long. You can probably get one from www.tcoutboard.com

You have to lift the power head for this repair, so now would be a good time to replace, or check the water pump if it has'nt been done in a while. You will need a power head base gasket, and I also would replace the upper drive shaft seal. This is a simple fix as the seal, and it's component's are right on the drive shaft.

Hope lifting the power head on this motor is easier than on a 92 Yamaha 4-stroke, whew, that was a *****, salted bolts and alot of expensive gaskets and O rings. Wonder what the total cost of would be in time and materials.
www.tcoutboard.com has an am for $20.00, a decent price, but wants mine in return for compare. Trying a repair first, but will buy the arm for later.
thanks again guys
