I "fixed" the broken 1/4 -20 screw today. I first tried to mig weld a nut to the screw but the wall of the screw wear weaken by drilling and would just braek off, did this three times. Man that mig heated things way up, that screw was cherry red but would not break free, I figure it must be cross thresded. After this I figured to go on and drill it the rest of the way out, even off center and would surely go into the AL head some. But then It hit me, the drill I used for the easy out was a #25 exactly right for a 10 - 24 tap. That did it nicely worked just fine. So its done now just waiting for the pump kit to arrive. Anyonne have tips on installing Seedi-Sleeves? I got a groove on the seal area of the drive shaft I want to fix. Iguess its next. Thanks to all those who chipped in on the broken stud, wonderkind all. Tight lines ~ Fish

Mornin' Fishboy,

Wish I could help BUT,..... have similar problems (wear grooves in prop & drive shafts at the seal)on a '66 Rude 9.5. I love the motor but have a hard time justifying costs for new shafts (quoted $135 and $180 respectively for new shafts).

So i'm just gonna tag onto your thread and hope that someone can offer some words of wisdom.

Good Luck
HAVE FUN!

Klondike,

I think I have a good 9.5 prop shaft & gear set if you are interested. A welder should be able to add metal at the grooved areas and then you can have it turned down to proper diameter if you want to try to have yours repaired.
